The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is over Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), which is over the Cyber Crimes Center (C3). The priority of HSI is to fight criminal activity that is facilitated by or conducted on the internet. The Cyber Crimes Center is made up of the Cyber Crimes Unit, the Computer Forensics Unit and the Child Exploitation Investigations Unit.

The Cyber Crimes Center offers training to local, state, federal and international law enforcement agencies. The center is state-of-the-art and contains a fully equipped computer forensics lab. Personnel in this center specialize in digital evidence recovery.

The Cyber Crimes Unit focuses on:

— Intellectual property digital theft

— Economic cyber crime

— Hidden marketplaces and illicit e-commerce

— Money laundering and smuggling through the internet

— Proliferation of strategic technology and arms through the internet.

Child Exploitation Investigations Unit fights against the sexual exploitation of children, child sex tourism and the production, advertisement and distribution of child pornography.

The Computer Forensics Unite performs forensic examinations of digital media and storage devices, such as mobile phones, flash drives, computer hard drives, CDs, DVDs, tape media and tablets. A strict chain of custody is maintained throughout the examinations.

If you are charged with a sex crime and part of the evidence has been handled by the Child Exploitation Investigations Unit, you need an attorney who is experienced in defending such cases. These cases can seriously harm your reputation and your career — even before you go to trial. When the charges involve the internet, the length of time it can take to prepare for court can be very long. It’s important to begin developing your case right away.
