A man crashed his car in Colorado Springs, and the wreck was bad enough that he was trapped in his vehicle. After emergency crews got him out, police determined that he was under the influence and arrested him.

The call came in to police right around 3:45 in the morning. It was the alleged drunk driver, calling on a cellphone to tell officers that he had crashed his car. He was trapped inside, where he had been for roughly an hour. Unable to get out and finally deciding he had no choice but to seek help, he made that call.

The police had a bit of trouble finding the vehicle in the dark, but they were able to do it using their lights, with the sirens blaring. They approached the vehicle, assessed the situation and figured out how to extract him safely.

After that, the 54-year-old man was transported to a nearby hospital so that he could get the medical care he needed. His injuries were not said to be serious, but a hospital visit seemed wise considering the situation.

After the doctors examined him, police arrested him and claimed they believed he had been under the influence while driving. They also carried out an investigation to find out how and why he crashed, and they said there was a very good chance his vehicle was traveling at more than 100 mph when he lost control, drove off of the street and wrecked.

These types of DWI allegations are very serious, showing how one mistake can quickly spiral out of control. Those who find themselves facing charges must know all of the legal defense options they have.
