A conviction of a sex crime in Colorado usually means someone will have to register on the state sex offender registry. This can have an enormous impact on an offender’s life, as there are many places he or she will not be allowed to go, live or work. This includes living within a certain distance from a playground or school. He or she will have to register a new address within a five days, report his or her new employment and report every 90 days to re-register.

For one convicted sex offender in Colorado, the failure to register as a sex offender means he is going to have to fight another criminal charge. The man was listed as the “55th Most Wanted Sex Offender” by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, but he is no longer a “wanted” man.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office performed a joint operation in Douglas County after a tip came in about where the man was located. When deputies went to that location, which was a trailer, they found that the wanted man had barricaded himself inside.

The man had been wanted since 2012 and he had three warrants out of El Paso County for failing to register as a sex offender.

As you can see, it’s important for those who have been convicted of a sex crime requiring registration on the state’s sex offender registry to ensure they keep the registry information current. This part of a sentence is not one to try to avoid. A criminal defense attorney who is experienced in sex offense can provide more information on the possible ramifications of failing to register.
