A Colorado Springs businessman was recently arrested by police on suspicion of his possible involvement in soliciting customers for prostitutes and human trafficking. The 76-year-old man owns and operates a spa in Colorado Springs. His arrest was the result of a lengthy investigation by federal and local law enforcement officials.
The man’s arrest followed the recent arrests of three women who also face criminal charges related to human trafficking. Additionally, the women have been accused of money laundering and for partaking in pimping activities. Police allege the 76-year-old man played a role in the prostitution and human trafficking activities and financially profited by allowing and encouraging the solicitation of prostitutes at his place of business.
Individuals who are accused of participating in U.S. sex trade and trafficking activities would be wise to retain legal representation. If convicted of criminal charges related to involvement in the commercial sex trade and human trafficking, an individual may face felony charges as well as a lengthy prison sentence. Additionally, individuals convicted of participating in criminal activities related to sex crimes will be forced to register as a sex offender and abide by the terms and restrictions related thereto.
In addition to the above-referenced repercussions, those convicted of sex crimes suffer both personally and professionally. A business owner may lose his or her business as well as the ability to obtain future employment and housing. If faced with this possible reality, a criminal defense attorney can provide sound advice and help protect an individual’s legal and civil rights.
