A 34-year-old Colorado Springs man is facing federal charges after police responded to a disturbance call on Halstead Circle on June 20. According to reports, the police were called after someone reported that a shot was fired in the area of the man’s home.
When police got to the scene, they saw the man in a car outside the residence. An elderly woman was trying to calm a toddler, who was inside the vehicle with the man, from outside the car. The man allegedly ran from the car to the inside of the home, leaving the toddler and the woman outside. Police ushered the two to safety as they surrounded the area. Shortly thereafter, the man and another woman exited the home.
Police searched the home and found high-powered rifles, pistols, a shotgun, high-capacity magazines, ammunition and a small amount of what they believe to be heroin.
The man, who is a convicted felon according to reports, is now facing federal charges. The case has been turned over to the U.S. Attorney’s Office and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
It is not known if the police obtained a search warrant of the home the man ran into. This is just one area that a criminal defense attorney would go over to see if the man’s rights were violated.
