The Wealthy Don’t Talk About Domestic Violence

When people think of domestic violence, they often unfairly stereotype it as something that only happens in low-income families. There is this broad assumption that victims can’t leave because they have no resources and nowhere to turn.

The reality, though, is that reports have shown that domestic violence is an issue with the wealthy as well. The difference is just that they often keep silent about it.

The reasons for this are many. For one thing, it could just be space. Wealthy people who do not work may not have as many interactions with their neighbors, and they could live on large lots where they don’t have to see people if they choose not to. It’s easier to hide the signs of violence.

Additionally, many wealthy people feel that they must be the only ones going through this type of situation. This makes them assume they can’t turn to anyone or talk about it. They just feel alone.

Furthermore, there is sometimes disbelief in their communities. When they do bring things up, friends and even family members may not believe what they are hearing. People who see tell-tale signs may also be more likely not to believe that violence could ever be an issue in an affluent family, and they’ll do nothing.

Though these reasons keep people silent, this does not mean domestic violence isn’t happening at all class levels in Colorado Springs. If you have been accused of this type of violence, you absolutely have a right to a fair trial, and you must know about all of the legal options that lie before you.
