What Parties Do You Need to Talk to After a Car Crash?

You might have heard the advice not to talk to the other party’s insurer after a car crash. It is a sound recommendation. Anyone from that company who contacts you will be looking for ways to reduce how much they pay you.

The same goes for the other driver. You don’t have to give them the silent treatment, but keep what you say about the crash to a minimum. They will pass on what you say to the insurer, and if there is a hint that you admitted fault, they will again use it to reduce your payout.

There are three sets of people you need to contact:

Family or friends

Even if you seem OK and your car seems drivable, shock can make it dangerous to drive. Ring someone to pick you up. They can also arrange someone to cover things you need to do, such as picking the kids up from school.

A doctor

You should always get a medical examination after a crash. If you do not get one and later notice injuries, it will be tougher to link them to the collision and get compensation. Doctors are great at spotting injuries you might not realize you have, some of which could be catastrophic if not treated immediately.

An attorney

You could claim compensation on your own, but you will be up against an insurance team who spend their life contesting claims. Their vast experience gives them a massive advantage. You need help to fight them on an equal footing. If the car crash was not your fault, you should not have to bear the costs.
