A man whom El Paso police suspect was involved in the shooting of multiple people has recently been arrested. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office believes that the man shot three people, including his wife, at two separate houses during a crime spree. Two of the three people died due to their wounds. The man now faces serious charges related to his alleged involvement in the attacks.
According to the report, law enforcement found the man’s wife shot to death in their home. A couple was also shot in their home in the same neighborhood, and the wife died. However, her husband survived. Police immediately suspected the husband of the wife that was shot alone inside their house.
After a vehicle and a foot chase, Colorado law enforcement eventually arrested the man, who has a prior criminal record. He is now facing two counts of first-degree murder as well as one count of attempted murder. He is being held in El Paso County Jail, and he was not given the opportunity to attempt to post bail in the immediate aftermath of his arrest.
The report states that, so far, the man is only a suspect in the case because of his relation to the houses where the victims were found — and because his wife is one of the victims. Prosecutors in El Paso County are going to need a lot more definitive evidence than that to prove the man’s understandably serious charges beyond a reasonable doubt. If enough evidence to support the charges is not produced in court, it is possible that the man’s case could be dropped entirely. In any event, it is clear this individual has a tough road in front of him and must take every reasonable precaution to ensure his legal rights are fully protected as the case moves forward.
