In northeast Colorado Springs, two people were sent to the hospital after a car accident. According to initial reports, the police suspect that the accident was caused by a drunk driver. In fact, the man who allegedly was driving under the influence was taken in to the El Paso County Jail, and he was booked for suspicion of DUI, along with vehicular assault and a few related misdemeanors.
The police reports indicate that the driver was on Research Parkway when the crash took place. He was close to North Powers Boulevard, and he slammed into the back of another vehicle that was also driving on Research Parkway. The rear-end accident made the other driver lose control of his car, and he then drove across the curb.
There was a passenger in the car that was being driven by the man who was allegedly drinking alcohol before the crash, and that passenger, along with the man who was driving the other vehicle, suffered injuries in the crash. These injuries, in both cases, were not deemed to be life-threatening, though they were said to be serious. They both went to the hospital for treatment.
The accident happened at around a quarter to ten in the evening, and it closed the road down until three the following morning. Apparently, there was an off-duty officer who was close to the intersection, and he saw the car that caused the accident, which was driving in an erratic fashion.
Those who are facing drunk driving charges and related charges for both causing an accident and causing an injury do deserve a fair trial, regardless of the extent of those injuries, and they have a right to the appropriate legal assistance, if they desire it.
